From Bielefield in Germany to America, Humanities in the University Of Uyo enjoys international collaboration programmes up to Ph.D levels, with countless local synergy through workshops, seminars, symposium to boost the study of humanities, which impacts on the day-to-day needs of the society. Boasts of modern broadcast faculties to enhance informaton dissemination in the University and environment, and a state of the art language laboratory for speech synthesis.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF THE FACULTY
When the defunct University of Cross River State came into being in 1983 one of its foundation faculties was the Faculty of Arts with the eminent scholar of communication and Language , Professor Solomon, O. Unoh as the first dean ( 1983- 1987).Some of the foundation departments were: English, Communication Arts,Fine Arts, Creative Arts, History, Philosophy and Religion and French. Prof Solomon Unoh was succeeded by Prof. Alan Herbert (1987). 


Late Prof Emmanuel D. Akpan, his successor, saw the university through the transitional period.
In October 1991, the Federal Government of Nigeria took over the state University and the name was changed to University of Uyo. 


The late professor Monday Abasiattai, a historian succeeded Prof. Emmanuel Akpanin 1993 and served as dean of the faculty until 1997.


Within this period the faculty increased in number to ten departments The Department of Fine and Industrial Arts was later excised from the Faculty and added to the Faculty of Environmental Studies on the recommendation of the 2005 Accreditation panel and the Faculty was left with nine departments.

FACULTY OF ARTS: VISION STATEMENT
In accordance with the vision of the University of Uyo The Faculty of Arts shall strive towards being a centre of excellence in teaching, learning and research and shall be concerned with the provision of a liberal education for the overall fundamental development of human beings and the society. In doing this, the rich cultural holdings of the host community shall be exploited alongside those of the country at large.
FACULTY OF ARTS : MISSION STATEMENT
The Faculty of Arts as the home of the ‘ humane discipline’, shall strive towards the production of well – rounded individuals who shall be:
1. Equipped with developed and heightened reasoning and analytical skills; 2. Trained and equipped with communication skills including the effective use of languages both local and foreign; 3. Enabled to contribute meaningfully to the productive and economic processes of their community and nation; 4. Well balanced in the appreciation, judgement and shaping of religious and ethical values; 5. Cultured in the appreciation of beauty both in nature and in the arts 6. Aware of the past in order to take a proper focus of the present and the future.
