Uniuyo Department of Petroleum Engineering

The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering were two of the eight branches of Engineering established in 1995/1996 Academic Session by the Vice Chancellor. Professor Fola Lasisi with Dr. C.E.A. Uko (Now Professor Uko) as the Pioneer Co-coordinator of the Faculty.

The Philosophy of establishing the Department is to achieve national goals and objectives of industrialization and self-reliance, through the training and producing of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Graduates with high academic standards and adequate competence to solve the immediate problems of the industry and nation in general.

In the 1996/1997 academic session. There were seventeen (17) Chemical Engineering students and thirteen (13) Petroleum Engineering students.

Four academic staff joined the faculty amongst who was Mr. Victor Etuk, an Assistant Lecturer. A Chemical Engineer who was subsequently appointed Acting Head of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in the 1996/1997 academic year.

Following him were Drs. Emmanuel J. Akpabio, Benjamin R. Etuk, Francis D. Udoh and Etim N. Bassesy (Now Professor Bassey) who were the subsequent Acting Heads of Department. Currently, there are thirty-two (32) academic staff with specialization in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering and Dr. Innocent O. Oboh is the Acting Head of Department.

The Department graduated its first batch of students in the 2000/2001 academic year.
